Malawi’s Parliament is preparing to table a long-awaited report on the Public Service Pension Trust Fund’s purchase of Amaryllis Hotel, according to Nyasa Times as republished by AllAfrica. The inquiry was handled by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which has now completed its work and sent the report to Speaker of the National Assembly Sameer Suleman.

PAC chairperson Steven Malondera said all committee members have signed off on the findings. Suleman said the document is expected to be presented to MPs during the National Assembly’s Mid-Year Budget Review Meeting in November. The development marks a significant step after months of dispute over whether the report could be released before a key witness testified.

The Executive had opposed tabling the report without evidence from former Secretary to the President and Cabinet Colleen Zamba, described by officials as an important witness. Her lawyers said she was facing a criminal case and did not appear before the committee. Later, Minister of Information and Communications Technology Shadric Namalomba indicated the government was now ready for the report to go forward despite the missing testimony.

The controversy has drawn public attention because it involves a state-linked pension fund and a hotel purchase that has prompted scrutiny over governance and accountability. The report’s eventual presentation is likely to renew debate in Parliament over the deal and what the committee found.
