Malawi: Malawi Housing Corporation Backs PR Conference, Hails Role of Strategic Communications

What the report says
Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) backed the opening cocktail reception for the 2026 Public Relations Society of Malawi annual general meeting, according to a report published by Nyasa Times and distributed by AllAfrica. The event took place on Wednesday, and MHC used the occasion to restate its support for strategic communication, transparency and public engagement in housing and urban development.
MHC chief executive officer Bob Chimkango told attendees that large-scale housing projects depend not only on construction but also on trust, stakeholder dialogue and clear communication. He linked the corporation’s work with the role of public relations, saying that effective engagement helps support modern and sustainable urban communities.
The report also said Chimkango outlined MHC’s urban renewal plans, including redevelopment work at the Malangalanga Staff Quarters in Area 1, Lilongwe. The site has reportedly received backing from local property owners, civic leaders, ward councillors and the area’s member of parliament. MHC said the project is intended to create a safer, more affordable residential estate with upgraded roads, drainage, lighting and green spaces.
Chimkango also appealed for support from media and PR professionals as MHC enforces tenant obligations such as rent payments and compliance. He said better financial discipline is necessary for maintaining existing housing stock and funding new estates. More broadly, the corporation said it wants to carry out its housing master plans with speed, accountability and transparency.
