Maganjo LC1 Boss Hajj Jabeli Musoke Dies Ahead of Campaign Launch

Nile Post reported that Hajj Jabeli Musoke, the LC1 chairperson of Maganjo B Village, has died after suffering from pneumonia, on the morning he was expected to start campaigning for another term. The report says Musoke died on Tuesday morning at Mulago National Referral Hospital after being moved there from Mengo Hospital, where he had been admitted following a sudden illness on Sunday.

According to the publisher, Musoke had led Maganjo B Village for more than 40 years and was seeking re-election on the National Resistance Movement ticket. He had recently told Nile Post that he intended to run again because he wanted to continue serving residents. His death came as local council election activity was underway, including nominations and campaign preparations.

Nile Post said mourners, among them residents and local leaders, gathered at Musoke’s home to console the family. Mary Tumusime, identified as the village secretary, said Musoke had appeared well during nominations the previous Friday and that his illness had not been evident at the time. Residents described him as a long-serving and accessible leader, and some said his passing had disrupted the local election process and created a leadership gap in the community.

The report said burial arrangements had not yet been announced and were expected to be communicated by the family. The death of a village chairperson is significant locally because LC1 leaders are often the first point of contact for community administration, dispute handling and coordination with higher local government structures.
