Madrat reveals lack of education cost him opportunities

What the report says
Ugandan comedian Madrat, whose real name is Dickson Lubega, has reflected on how leaving school early continues to affect his life and career choices. In remarks reported by Sqoop Uganda, the Madrat and Chiko duo member said he regrets not completing his education and believes it has limited opportunities available to him.
According to the publisher, Madrat made the comments during an appearance on the Deep Talk Show. He said one of the missed possibilities was entering politics, explaining that he would have liked to run for office but did not have the academic qualifications required. He also said he may return to school one day if circumstances allow, while acknowledging that politics can be difficult.
Sqoop Uganda reported that Madrat linked his education gap to family financial hardship. He said school fees were difficult for his mother to raise, and that his studies ended at Africana Whiteland College International, now known as Seroma Christian High School. He described how the school supported students whose fees were unpaid, including keeping some on campus during holidays to do manual work for the director.
Looking back, Madrat said he now better understands the value of education and feels its absence has cost him several chances. The story highlights a common challenge in Uganda and elsewhere, where financial pressure can interrupt schooling and narrow later career options.
