Maddu Health Centre gets boost to maternal and newborn care

Maddu Health Centre IV in Gomba District, central Uganda, is receiving new support aimed at improving maternal and newborn care, according to The Independent Uganda. The package includes medical equipment, beds, bicycles, smartphones and other information and communications technology tools, alongside training for medical records officers on the Electronic Medical Records Information System (EMRIS). The upgrades are intended to help health workers manage patient information more efficiently and strengthen services at a facility that serves mothers and families in the area.

The support is being delivered by MTN Uganda through its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign, which this year focuses on maternal and newborn health. The article says the company has also held a community health camp with screening, registration and health education, while Village Health Teams and community health workers received digital literacy training. MTN’s mobile money arm also provided financial literacy sessions, and the digital health platform Zuri Health has been introduced to help residents access health information and referrals.

Local health leaders said the investment could improve service delivery by combining infrastructure, trained staff and digital systems. The report notes that rural residents often face distance and transport barriers when seeking care, making timely access to guidance especially important. The programme is part of a broader MTN Uganda effort at four health facilities under the theme “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community,” with the total value of the interventions put at about UGX600 million.
