What the report says

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has said he is disappointed that the club has not offered him a new contract, and that he had other options to leave in the summer. The comments were reported by BBC Sport Football ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. Mac Allister, 27, joined Liverpool from Brighton in June 2023 on a five-year deal and has two years left on his current contract.

According to BBC Sport, the Argentina international said he was "very sad" about the situation and stressed that he continues to give his full effort in training and matches. He pointed to the recent contract renewals of teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, saying he was pleased for them while also feeling regret that he has not received a similar offer. He also said fans should not worry and that he would keep giving his all for the club.

BBC Sport reported that Mac Allister has been linked with Manchester City and said he has not had direct contact with Liverpool about the decision. He added that he loves the club and the city and believes he is in the right place for now. Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, as quoted by BBC Sport, said the player wants to stay and that there is still time to discuss contract matters.
