What the report says

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested and charged two men in Mukono District in a case tied to alleged land grabbing, intimidation and other crimes. The accused are Luwunga Village chairman Muwonge Muhammed and his alleged accomplice, Ssozi Abdalla, who were brought before the Mukono Magistrates Court and denied the charges.

According to Nile Post, the pair faced eight offences, including theft, destruction of food and attempted unlawful acquisition of land. They were remanded to Kawuga Prison until August 26, 2026. The case was presented by the anti-corruption unit led by Gen Henry Isoke, following a security meeting in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, involving local security officials.

The report says the arrests are linked to accusations that a group had used violence to control disputed land and frighten residents. Alleged victims claimed the group, locally referred to as the “Bafakinyi,” had taken over about 311.5 acres belonging to the Kiwanuka Joseph Bulimu Musenze family. They alleged that crops and property were damaged, homes were demolished and some land was subdivided and sold.

Family representatives and residents welcomed the arrests, saying the intervention brought relief after months of alleged insecurity. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit said other suspected members of the group remain at large and could also face charges if investigations confirm their involvement. In general, land disputes and attacks on residents are a recurring concern in parts of Uganda, making anti-graft and security interventions significant for affected communities.
