Lujja, Moore sink hole-in-ones on day of drama, Nigerian Olapade level with Mayo

Uganda Golf Club saw an unusual day in the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Pro Open, with two hole-in-ones recorded on the same day. The Independent Uganda reported that Henry Lujja made an ace on the short par-3 fourth hole, while 2024 champion Dayne Moore followed with another on the 17th. Lujja’s effort came during a level-par round, but he still missed the cut. Moore’s shot helped steady a round that had put him on the edge of elimination after earlier trouble on the same hole.

At the top of the leaderboard, Nigeria’s Sunday Olapade and Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo were tied at five-under after matching scores of 139. Olapade moved into a share of the lead with a 67, helped by back-to-back eagles early in his round and a tactical switch to using a three-wood more often. Rugumayo, meanwhile, had a mixed day: he looked in control after an eagle on the 13th, but late double bogeys on the 15th and 18th brought him back level with Olapade.

Phillip Kasozi sat one shot back on 140 after a 69, while Kenya’s Dismas Indiza was a further shot behind after also carding 69. The report said the round featured both strong scoring and several costly mistakes, including Herman Mutaawe’s final-hole triple bogey, which knocked him out of the event. The results set up a tight contest heading into the next rounds of the championship.
