Lost songs from iconic Australian rockstar found in garage

BBC World News reports that three previously unreleased songs by Australian rock singer Chrissy Amphlett have been found and are set for release nearly 12 years after her death. Amphlett, best known as the frontwoman of Divinyls and the voice behind hits including "I Touch Myself," recorded the tracks in 1998 with Tim Finn, formerly of Split Enz, in Sydney.

According to the BBC, the songs were long believed to be missing until Finn located the original tape in his garage in 2023. The recordings came from a session during a period when Amphlett was seeking new musical directions, after the end of her relationship with Divinyls guitarist Mark McEntee and around the time she was becoming closer to drummer Charley Drayton, who later married her.

Finn said the pair wrote and recorded the songs over several days, but the material was never fully completed at the time. The BBC notes that the tracks will be released on Friday as an EP titled Some Times. The discovery is notable because it adds a new posthumous release to the work of one of Australia’s most recognizable rock performers and offers a rare glimpse into an unreleased collaboration from the late 1990s.
