Lizzo 'grateful' after judge dismisses lawsuit against production company

US pop star Lizzo has responded after a federal judge in California dismissed the remaining claims in a lawsuit involving her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. According to BBC World News, former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels had accused the company of mistreatment during brief work in 2023, including harassment, forced labor, denial of medical care and other workplace abuse. The court’s latest ruling removed the final claims still pending against the company.

District judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha said the allegations described conduct that did not amount to the kind of workplace discrimination or disability claim Daniels had tried to pursue. BBC’s report says the judge also addressed Daniels’ claim that her foot was injured by a clothes rack, concluding that the injuries described did not meet the legal standard for a disability under US law. The judge had already ruled in 2024 that Daniels could not sue Lizzo as an individual, leaving the production company as the remaining defendant.

In an Instagram post, Lizzo said she felt relieved and thanked her lawyers and supporters. The singer, whose full name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, also said she would keep fighting claims made against her and her businesses. The case adds to a broader set of legal disputes around the musician, including separate allegations from former tour dancers that her team denies.
