Martin Kaymer, captain of Cleeks GC, told the outlet after a captains’ meeting at LIV Golf UK that the Michigan event is “highly unlikely” to proceed, with a decision expected next Tuesday. He estimated the chances at about 5%, citing the lack of event infrastructure on site.

The report says LIV chief executive Scott O’Neil briefed captains at JCB Golf & Country Club during the league’s return from a seven-week break. That pause followed the postponement of a New Orleans event in late June, which Today’s Golfer said came amid reported concerns over heat and course conditions. Kaymer said players were hoping for firmer answers about next year but were told much depends on prospective investors.

According to Today’s Golfer, O’Neil is seeking $350 million in new funding after the Saudi Public Investment Fund decided to end its multibillion-dollar backing at the close of the season. The outlet also reported that LIV faces a September deadline to secure money needed to protect its future beyond 2026, while discussing a leaner model with fewer tournaments and smaller prize funds.

Kaymer said Indianapolis is still likely to take place, though he noted speculation that it could be changed into a team event if Michigan is dropped. The uncertainty matters because LIV’s format is built around both individual and team competition, and the finale is meant to determine the team champion. Today’s Golfer said LIV declined to comment on the Michigan event and that The Cardinal had been approached for comment.
