Lira’s Dr. Obote College Among Uganda’s Top Three for FEASSA Baseball Games in Tanzania

Dokolo Post reports that Dr. Obote College Boroboro in Lira has qualified as one of three government-aided secondary schools set to represent Uganda in baseball at the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Associations (FEASSA) Games in Morogoro, Tanzania. The school earned the slot after finishing third at the National Secondary Schools Baseball Championship hosted at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School in Gulu City.

According to the report, Games Teacher and Physical Education instructor James Akona said on Friday, July 17, 2026, that the qualifying places went to the top three government-aided schools. Panyadoli Secondary School from Kiryandongo District won the national championship, St. Peter’s Secondary School placed second, and Dr. Obote College took third. Akona linked the result to the school’s progression from winning in Lira City to becoming regional champions before reaching the East African stage.

Baseball coach Kizito Joseph Otim said the school is capable of competing strongly in Tanzania and urged more schools to develop baseball talent. Team captain Ajali Godwin Smith, a 17-year-old Senior Three student, described the qualification as a major moment for the school, especially because the sport was reportedly introduced there only one month before the achievement.

Deputy Head Teacher for Administration Tom Ogwang credited parents, staff, management and students for supporting the team, saying the result highlights the value of co-curricular activities. The FEASSA Games bring together secondary school athletes from across East Africa in multiple sports, serving both as a competition platform and a regional school-sports exchange.
