What the report says

Lira City Council Football Club (LCC FC) is heading into the 2026/27 Northern Regional League season with promotion to the FUFA Big League as its main target. According to the club’s briefing in Lavington Park on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, management says a rebuilt squad and new leadership have put the team in a stronger position after several seasons of talent development.

Club chief executive officer John Baptist Opua said LCC FC has spent five years developing players, with some moving on to higher-profile competitions such as the Uganda Premier League and regional tournaments. He said the club has invested in player preparation and is committed to fulfilling all league fixtures, while also thanking sponsors such as Meru Investment Ltd and Unity FM for their support. Opua added that success on the pitch could bring wider economic activity to Lira City through match-day business.

Chairperson Emmanuel Komakech said the new management wants to build a disciplined and competitive side capable of earning promotion next season. He also urged supporters to handle disagreements through dialogue rather than public criticism. Head coach Dan Ogwal Engwedo said he has restructured the squad, signing 11 players so far, and pointed to injuries and financial limits as factors in last season’s promotion miss, when the club finished third, four points behind second place.

Team captain Ayo Emmanuel said the players are prepared for the campaign and that the larger squad gives the team more depth. LCC FC lost 1-0 in a friendly against Uganda Premier League side Blacks Power FC on October 14 and is scheduled to face Lira University before opening its league season against SC Tawai on October 20 in Dokolo Town Council.
