Lindsay Clancy trial: Jury selection expected to begin today - WCVB

WCVB reported that jury selection began Monday in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Duxbury mother accused of killing her three young children in 2023. By the end of the first day, five jurors — three women and two men — had been seated. Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts each of murder in the deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 7-month-old Callan.

According to WCVB, Judge William F. Sullivan said he expected to select 18 jurors for a case projected to take six to eight weeks. Prospective jurors were asked to fill out questionnaires and review a witness list for possible conflicts before speaking with the judge and attorneys. Reporters could not hear those conversations, but WCVB observed that many potential jurors were excused during the day.

The station reported that Clancy became a paraplegic after harming herself shortly after her children’s deaths and is being held at Tewksbury State Hospital. Her defense plans to argue lack of criminal responsibility, with attorney Kevin Reddington saying she was overmedicated for postpartum depression. WCVB also noted that, in a civil case, Clancy has alleged failures by medical providers in diagnosing and treating her psychiatric condition.

Ahead of trial, Sullivan denied a defense request to sequester the jury but said jurors would be checked daily about avoiding media coverage or outside research. WCVB reported prosecutors recently dropped three strangulation or suffocation counts, with the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office saying those charges were redundant because they are covered by the murder indictments.
