LIKDUL outdances MICO styles to claim historic national title

What the report says
Abdul Malik, who performs as freestyle dancer LIKDUL, has won Uganda’s first Red Bull Dance Your Style national title after defeating MICO Styles in the final held at Motiv in Kampala over the weekend, according to Sqoop Uganda. The event brought together dancers, musicians, celebrities and other creatives, and highlighted the growing visibility of Uganda’s street-dance scene within the country’s wider entertainment industry.
Sqoop Uganda reported that the contest uses crowd voting rather than judges, with dancers facing off in improvised one-on-one battles and responding to unexpected music. LIKDUL advanced through the semi-finals alongside MICO Styles, KiiNESIS and PEZZ MUSTAFA before beating MICO Styles in the championship round. His win makes him the first Ugandan to claim the title.
The victory also secures LIKDUL a place at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final in Zurich, Switzerland, scheduled for October, where he will represent Uganda against other national champions. The Kampala final capped a citywide campaign that included activations at Makerere University and MUBS, plus a qualifier at Somewhere Else and a workshop led by Verb. Sqoop Uganda also said the night featured performances from several Ugandan artists and dance groups, underlining the event’s role as both a competition and a showcase for local creativity.
