Light Flip is the minimalist $299 Moto Razr throwback you’ve been waiting for - 9to5Google

9to5Google reports that Light has announced the Light Flip, its fourth device and a lower-cost entry in its minimalist phone lineup. The handset is priced at $299, with an option to buy the phone bundled with cellular service from $39 per month, and is scheduled to ship in April 2027. The launch follows the Light Phone 3, which drew attention in part because of its much higher preorder pricing.

The Light Flip uses a traditional clamshell design that 9to5Google describes as a deliberate throwback to Motorola’s influential Razr V3 era rather than a modern foldable-screen phone. It has a 2.8-inch 480p matte OLED display, physical number keys and a navigation pad, stereo speakers, 5G support, nano SIM and eSIM support, 128GB of storage, 6GB of RAM and a MediaTek MT8873 chipset. Its 50-megapixel rear camera outputs 12-megapixel images and includes an LED flash.

The report highlights several retro or enthusiast-friendly details, including a notification light for calls and messages when the phone is closed, a replaceable battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a keychain loop. It will be offered in six colors: red, pink, yellow, black, gray and navy. One tradeoff noted by 9to5Google is bulk: the phone is listed at 19mm thick when folded and 160 grams.

On software, the device runs LightOS, the company’s stripped-down operating system. According to the report, existing LightOS tools such as navigation and music playback will work on the Flip, and its T9 dialer includes predictive text. The product matters because it positions Light’s distraction-reducing phone concept in a more affordable, nostalgic form factor.
