Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu bashes ‘lies’ about WNBA 3-point invite - New York Post

What the report says
The New York Post reported that New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu disputed online claims that she had turned down a place in the WNBA All-Star weekend 3-point contest. The issue arose after a since-deleted B/R W Sports Instagram post grouped Ionescu with Caitlin Clark and Kayla McBride under language indicating they had declined to participate. Ionescu responded on Instagram by calling the claim “Lies,” according to the Post.
Speaking with reporters before Wednesday’s Liberty game against the Chicago Sky, Ionescu said she had not received an official invitation from the league and said her representatives also had not discussed one. She said she could not decline an offer that was never extended, while adding that she remains supportive of the players who will compete and is interested to see who wins.
Ionescu has been one of the WNBA’s most prominent 3-point contest performers. The Post noted that she set the event record in 2023 with 37 points out of a possible 40 and won again last year. She said she typically evaluates each year whether to participate based on her condition and circumstances, and joked that she might compete again against Stephen Curry at NBA All-Star weekend if she receives an official invite.
This year, Ionescu was not selected for the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game after four straight appearances, with the Post citing 12 missed first-half games and a scoring average of 13.8 points. She said she plans to use the break to rest, recover and prepare for the season’s second half.
