Liberia: Trump Faith Adviser Hails Liberia's Resilience

AllAfrica, carrying a report from The New Dawn of Monrovia, reported that Paula White-Cain, senior adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump’s White House Faith Office, praised Liberia’s endurance during an Independence Day religious service in Buchanan. She spoke at First United Methodist Church during Liberia’s 179th Independence Day Thanksgiving and Intercessory Service, whose theme centered on strengthening national identity through Liberian-led historical leadership.

According to the report, White-Cain framed Liberia’s history as one shaped by faith, unity and resilience, pointing to the country’s experience with civil conflict, political change, economic strain and public health crises. In a sermon drawing on the biblical story of Nehemiah, she said national rebuilding should involve not only infrastructure and institutions but also restored public confidence, shared identity and hope.

The New Dawn said the service emphasized preservation of Liberia’s history, collective responsibility, servant leadership and national renewal. Citing an Executive Mansion release, the report said White-Cain described Liberia’s founding as Africa’s first independent republic as a symbol of liberty, and urged citizens and leaders to honor that legacy through patriotism, ethical leadership, accountability and unity.

White-Cain also called attention to Liberia’s natural resources, including farmland, forests, waterways and coastline, while saying the population remains the country’s most important asset. She encouraged investment in human development, especially among young people, and urged youth to stay connected to Liberia’s values while preparing for leadership. The remarks matter as Liberia used its independence observances to link national identity, historical memory and calls for civic responsibility.
