What the report says

Liberia’s government says the country’s economy grew by 5.1 percent in 2025, up from 4.0 percent in 2024, and is expected to rise to 5.5 percent in 2026. The announcement was made in Monrovia by Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah during a regular press briefing at the Ministry of Information, where he outlined results from the administration’s development program.

According to the report distributed by AllAfrica from The New Republic Liberia, the figures were discussed as part of a review by the National Steering Committee of the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. The agenda, launched in January 2025, is the administration’s five-year blueprint covering economic transformation, infrastructure and public services. Piah said the government wants those results to remain part of the public discussion amid wider political concerns.

The article says the World Bank also reported 5.1 percent growth for Liberia in 2025, with mining, services and agriculture contributing to the expansion. It also cites government claims that inflation fell to 4.0 percent at the end of 2025 from 12.8 percent, although Liberia’s finance ministry later said inflation rose modestly in May 2026. The government says it sees the lower inflation and stronger growth as signs of improving macroeconomic stability and progress toward poverty reduction, food access and job creation.
