What the report says

Former Montserrado County District 10 Representative Yekeh Y. Kolubah has declared that he will run for Liberia’s presidency in 2029 as an independent candidate. Speaking at a press conference in Monrovia, at his Old Road residence, he said the event was not about reconciling with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, despite speculation that his recent return to Liberia might lead to a political thaw.

Kolubah said he will not contact Boakai to seek peace and added that he would “never beg” the president. He also said he hopes to work with an organization he called the National Movement. According to the report, a person described as close to the ruling Unity Party visited Kolubah the night before and said Boakai had no personal issue with him, but no reconciliation deal was announced.

The former lawmaker also criticized former President George Weah, rejecting any suggestion that his current political posture is meant to help Weah. He said he has spent his own money on past political activity and insisted he is not dependent on either leader. The remarks matter because they signal Kolubah’s next political move after his return to Liberia and add another layer to the country’s evolving political alignments ahead of the 2029 election cycle.
