What the report says

Liberia Revenue Authority Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah said the country’s mining sector has generated about US$432 million for domestic revenue, according to a report by The New Republic distributed by AllAfrica. He made the remarks at the fourth Government Town Hall Meeting in Tubmanburg City, Bomi County, where he discussed revenue collection, budget planning and public access to fiscal data.

Jallah said Liberia’s domestic revenue target for 2026 is US$1.1 billion and suggested the government could surpass that goal before the end of October. He also pointed to a longer-term ambition of reaching about US$1.3 billion in domestic revenue by the end of 2026, framing that as a sharp increase from 2023 performance. The report says he linked stronger collections to the government’s ability to fund the national budget and development programs with less dependence on outside support.

The LRA chief also stressed transparency, saying the authority has launched an online dashboard that allows the public to track daily collections and download data for review. He encouraged journalists, civil society groups and researchers to use the tool to monitor performance and support accountability.

The article added that domestic tax collections and customs are the main revenue streams, and that mining is one part of a broader economic base. It also noted, as part of Jallah’s presentation, that government infrastructure plans and a concession arrangement with Pivotal were being discussed alongside revenue issues.
