Liberia: Green Cities, Partners Launch €375k Farm Resilience Project

What the report says
Green Cities Inc. has launched a €375,000 farm resilience project in Liberia in partnership with Action Against Hunger and the Say No to Hunger Farmers’ Cooperative. Reported by Liberian Observer and distributed by AllAfrica, the NOURISH Family Farms initiative is aimed at improving food security, household nutrition and environmentally sustainable farming practices.
The project is expected to directly support 600 smallholder farmers in Nimba and Montserrado counties, with broader indirect benefits reaching an estimated 842,000 people. According to the report, funding comes through the ECOWAS framework with support from the Agence Française de Développement and the European Union. The launch took place on October 2, 2026, at a National Inception Meeting in Monrovia’s Royal Grand Hotel, where government officials, development partners, farmers’ groups and other stakeholders were present.
Green Cities and its partners said the program will promote organic biofertilizers, biopesticides, diversified crop production and better dietary practices. The initiative also includes targets for greater organic waste use and increased production of biofertilizer and biopesticides. In remarks reported by Liberian Observer, officials from Green Cities, the Agriculture Ministry and Action Against Hunger said the effort reflects a wider push to link farm productivity, soil health and nutrition, with farmers positioned as active partners in implementation.
The project matters because it addresses food production, climate resilience and nutrition together, rather than as separate issues. If carried through to 2028 as planned, it could offer a model for agroecological farming and rural livelihoods in Liberia.
