Liberia: Boakai Hails LRA CG Jallah, Taxpayers

Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has praised Liberia Revenue Authority Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah, the LRA team, and taxpayers after Liberia reached more than US$1 billion in domestic revenue for the first time in its 179-year history. Boakai said the outcome reflected joint efforts across government, including the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, alongside what he described as the commitment of ordinary Liberians. The president also said the money was raised through domestic taxes, duties, fees, and other payments rather than borrowing or foreign aid. He linked the result to reforms at the LRA, including stronger compliance and enforcement, more digital systems, improved taxpayer services, revenue assurance, and updated tax and customs administration.

Boakai urged continued revenue collection and accountability, saying the gains should translate into better living conditions. In broader context, domestic revenue growth can give governments more room to fund public services and development projects with locally generated resources.
