Lewis-Skelly's push to start in midfield for Arsenal

Myles Lewis-Skelly is emerging as a midfield option for Arsenal after first breaking into the senior side at left-back. BBC Sport Football reports that the 19-year-old came through the club’s Hale End academy as a midfielder, even though his first-team breakthrough in the 2024-25 season came in defence during a spell of injuries. His strong performances helped him earn an England debut, score against Albania in March 2025, and later sign a new five-year contract.

The article says Lewis-Skelly’s chances in midfield were limited for much of last season because Arsenal had other options in the squad, including Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie in defence. But he was then handed an opportunity in central midfield against Fulham late in the campaign and impressed enough to keep his place for much of the run-in. BBC Sport says that run of form has led Arsenal to reconsider whether they should listen to offers for him, especially given the financial value of academy graduates, though no sale is said to be close.
