Lena Dunham's Girls to return for limited HBO run

What the report says
HBO says Lena Dunham’s Girls will return for a limited five-episode run, roughly a decade after the original series finale. The announcement was made by Dunham in a mock Zoom call with cast members Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells. According to HBO, production is due to begin in 2027, and executive producer Judd Apatow is also set to return.
The revival will bring back the main group associated with the original show, which followed four friends navigating their 20s in New York City. Dunham said she wanted to revisit the characters only if there was a story worth telling, and suggested the new episodes would focus on the “milestone of turning forty.” HBO said the new project will show how the characters have changed since the series ended.
Girls ran for six seasons from 2012 to 2017 and won two Emmys, while also drawing strong attention and debate during its original run. BBC’s report notes that the title for the limited series has not yet been announced. Some familiar names were not included in HBO’s statement, including actor Adam Driver and co-showrunner Jenni Konner, though the report does not say whether either will be involved later.
