LeBron James, Tyrese Maxey shine as 76ers beat Knicks in NBA Cup thriller

What the report says
The Philadelphia 76ers opened the NBA Cup with a 98-93 win over the New York Knicks on Friday, using strong performances from Tyrese Maxey and LeBron James to hold off a late push in New York. Al Jazeera, citing AFP, reported that Maxey led Philadelphia with 27 points, while James finished with 20 points and made key baskets late to help secure the result.
The game was part of the first round of the NBA Cup’s group stage, which runs through November and counts toward the regular-season standings. Philadelphia had already beaten the Knicks once this season, and this victory again came against the defending NBA champions at Madison Square Garden. The Sixers built a lead of as many as 14 points before the Knicks rallied in the fourth quarter.
New York briefly went ahead on a Jalen Brunson three-pointer in the final minutes, but James answered with a basket to restore Philadelphia’s lead and later added a tip-in after a missed shot by Maxey. Coach Nick Nurse called it James’s best outing since joining the team as a free agent in July. Brunson led the Knicks with 24 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 points and 12 rebounds. The result gives Philadelphia an early advantage in the tournament and adds to pressure on a Knicks team that has now dropped to 2-4.
