LC I Election Cash Row Lands NRM District Chairperson in Police Custody

Dokolo Post reports that Olwit Kamilo, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) district chairperson for Amolatar, was arrested on July 21, 2026, over claims that money meant to support the party’s Local Council I flag bearer and Women Council election activities was not fully passed on to intended grassroots beneficiaries. Police said he was picked up in Inomo Ward, Amolatar Town Council, after complaints that some village leaders received less than the amount they had expected.

North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema told the publisher that investigators opened General Enquiry File No. 038/2026 to examine whether the funds were mishandled. According to police, LC I flag bearers were reportedly due to receive Shs100,000, but some allegedly got Shs50,000. Statements have been taken from some affected beneficiaries, while others are still expected to give accounts.

Amolatar Resident District Commissioner Francis Okello Rwotlonyo said his office received complaints from residents and village chairpersons that facilitation for NRM village barazas had not reached everyone as intended. He alleged that after he directed Olwit to ensure the unpaid balances were delivered, the district chairperson instead convened a District Executive Committee meeting where remaining funds were shared among committee members. Rwotlonyo further alleged that he was later told Shs4.5 million had been set aside for him, after which he contacted security officials.

Police said Olwit remains at Amolatar Central Police Station as inquiries continue, and the completed file will be sent to the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance. The RDC said some money had been recovered and urged NRM campaign activities to continue while investigations proceed.
