Lawyer, Land Expert Remanded Over Alleged Shs520m Kololo Land Fraud

What the report says
A lawyer and a land investigations expert have been remanded to Luzira Prison in connection with allegations that they obtained Shs520 million from a Chinese national in a claimed land deal involving property in Kololo, Kampala, according to Nile Post. The accused are Augustine Paul Kasasa, a lawyer attached to Barnabus Dyadi and Co. Advocates, and Ronald Fisher Mundere, identified as a land investigations expert.
Nile Post reported that the pair appeared before Nakawa Court Magistrate Frank Namanya and applied for bail while the case is pending. Their lawyers, Peterson Mwesiga and Ezaketh Owori, presented several proposed sureties in support of the applications. Those named included Erias Karambuzi, Aramathan Byaruhanga, Abel Bwogyero, Noah Mawagali Bwete, Jackie Nanjala and Veronica Nakanyike.
The court did not immediately rule on the bail requests after prosecution counsel Mahatma Odongo asked for additional time to review the defence documents. As a result, the magistrate deferred consideration of the applications and the two suspects remained on remand as proceedings continue.
The case matters because it involves an alleged high-value property fraud tied to land in one of Kampala’s most prominent neighbourhoods. The accusations have not been proved in court, and both men are presumed innocent unless and until convicted.
