Gematsu reports that BlackJack Studio has released the first gameplay trailer, screenshots and new details for Langrisser: Sea of Sword, described by the studio as a “next-generation fantasy tactical RPG.” The game is planned for PC via Steam, iOS and Android, but no release date has been announced. The new materials come alongside the launch of the game’s Steam page.

According to the information shared there, Sea of Sword is intended to move the long-running Langrisser series beyond traditional linear stage progression. Players take the role of the Nameless, a character searching for lost memories, who travels with a white-haired girl named Eta into a setting shaped by imperial power, factional conflict and difficult choices. The game will retain the series’ hero-and-soldier tactical foundation while adding a system in which two heroes and two troop types can be paired in a squad, with heroes switching roles in battle and certain pairings unlocking special unity skills.

The studio also outlined broader structural changes, including free exploration across locations such as forests, towns, royal cities and caves, with puzzles, terrain changes, NPC interactions and material gathering. Players will eventually develop their own territory, progressing from a small camp toward a larger stronghold. Battles are said to include height advantages, destructible terrain and multiple ways to approach victory, such as breaching fortifications or collapsing structures.

Gematsu’s report also notes the game’s hand-drawn fantasy art direction and an original soundtrack by composer Yasunori Nishiki. Familiar Langrisser elements, including flying units, infantry, cavalry and returning characters such as Leon, Elwin and Sherry, are also expected to appear in updated form.
