Lango Delegation Attends Tooro King’s Coronation, Revives Historic Ties

A delegation from Lango, led by Prime Minister Prof. Willy Okullo on behalf of Won Nyaci me Lango, HRH Eng. Dr Michael Moses Odongo Okune, attended the coronation of the new Tooro king in Fort Portal City on Tuesday. The event brought together thousands of guests at Karuziika Palace, where Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was formally crowned as Omukama of Tooro.

According to Dokolo Post, the ceremony followed traditional rites and marked the transition after the death of the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. President Yoweri Museveni also attended. The new monarch, formerly known as Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, was chosen by the Babiito royal clan and later endorsed by the Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council.

For Lango cultural leaders, the visit was not only ceremonial but also a way to reaffirm historical links between Lango and Tooro.
