Lady Titie reveals how she made Shs1m a day from ‘Ebbaluwa’ letters

Veteran Ugandan singer and radio personality Tendo Tabel, known as Lady Titie, has described how her Beat FM “Ebbaluwa” segment became a source of side income after some traditional healers allegedly paid to have their letters read first. Sqoop Uganda reported that the programme, which featured anonymous listeners’ stories and advice, was popular for years because of its emotional and often personal content.

In the account shared during a church testimony, Lady Titie said she first received genuine appeals for help, but later noticed that some letters were being fabricated to promote healers’ services. When she began rejecting such submissions, she said the healers changed tactics and started offering money directly to secure airtime priority. She claimed the arrangement was kept from Beat FM management.

Lady Titie said the payments increased as healers competed for the first slot, and that she could make substantial sums from the letters. She also said her outlook changed after her six-month-old daughter became ill and attempts by some of the healers to treat the child did not succeed. That experience, she said, pushed her toward Christianity and made her question the healers’ claims.

According to the report, she later sought advice from a pastor, who told her to continue receiving the money but to tithe and use the rest for charitable purposes such as helping orphans. The story highlights questions around media ethics, faith and the influence of radio platforms in Uganda’s entertainment space.
