Kyotera Woman MP Election Petition Ruling Set for December 14

What the report says
The High Court in Masaka has set December 14, 2026, to rule on an election petition filed by National Resistance Movement candidate Scola Kalibbala Besigye against the election of Fortunate Rose Nantongo as Kyotera District Woman Member of Parliament. The case is being heard by Justice Rossette Kania and centres on claims that disputed declaration of results forms and other electoral record-keeping problems affected the outcome of the race.
According to Nile Post, the hearing examined documents linked to several polling locations, including Kisuula Primary School, Teefe Teefe Cell and Kamwanyi Catholic Church. Kalibbala’s lawyers questioned Kyotera District Electoral Commission returning officer Esther Asiimwe about the authenticity, completeness and custody of the forms, and raised concerns about inconsistencies in the results paperwork. Asiimwe rejected the allegations and said some of the disputed documents were not in the Electoral Commission’s records system.
The petition also includes broader claims by Kalibbala that irregularities in the electoral process and possible collusion with the Electoral Commission denied her victory. Nantongo, through her lawyers led by Sam Muyizzi, has denied the challenge and said she is confident in her defence. The court’s ruling will determine whether the petition has merit and whether any legal steps should be taken regarding Nantongo’s victory, making the case significant for both the local political contest and wider concerns about election administration and documentation in Uganda.
