Kyenjojo Intensifies Preparations for FY 2025/26 National Local Government Performance Assessment

Watchdog Uganda reports that Kyenjojo District has begun preparations for the FY 2025/26 National Local Government Performance Assessment through a mock assessment entry meeting. The exercise was intended to test readiness across district departments, lower local governments and political leadership before the national evaluation, which the article says is conducted by the Ministry of Local Government together with the Office of the Prime Minister.

According to the report, the meeting included heads of departments, sub-county chiefs, town clerks, accountants and political leaders. Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Vincent Kyaligonza urged officials to take part fully and ensure that information submitted during the process is accurate and backed by proper records. The district also reviewed whether required documents, evidence and performance files were in place.

Senior Treasurer Jordan Alicwamu, presenting on behalf of the District Planner, said Kyenjojo improved in the FY 2024/25 national assessment, moving from 151st to 90th out of 176 local governments. The report attributed the gain partly to better results in Production and the Micro-scale Irrigation Programme. Production reportedly rose from 40% to 90%, while Water and Sanitation, Health, Education and Infrastructure also posted improved scores. The irrigation programme was reported at 84%.

District officials said remaining priorities include stronger documentation, timely reporting, supervision, internal reviews and staff commitment across lower local governments. District Chairperson Gilbert Rubaihayo praised the technical team and called for continued collaboration, saying the district should aim for full performance in the next assessment. The preparation matters because local government assessments are used to track compliance, accountability and service delivery capacity.
