What the report says

Kwar Adhola Moses Stephen Owori, head of the Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution, has called on households in Padhola and the wider Bukedi sub-region to take up coffee growing as a steady source of income and a way to reduce poverty. According to Nile Post, he said coffee can help families in Tororo and nearby areas build more reliable agricultural earnings, especially as communities look for higher-value crops.

Owori made the appeal at Padhola Palace in Amagoro 'A' North Village, Tororo Municipality, where he received more than 500 coffee seedlings donated by the family of Julian and Felix Omalla through Delight Uganda Limited. He said the institution has been mobilising resources to support coffee promotion, including community sensitisation and distribution of seedlings.

He urged each household to start with at least 10 coffee trees and also invited farmers to learn cultivation methods from his demonstration farm. Some of the donated seedlings are intended to replace coffee plants in that garden that were damaged by harsh weather, the report said.

Delight Uganda Limited said it is also running a coffee nursery in Kidera-Panyagasi with more than one million seedlings for farmers in Tororo and surrounding areas. Bukedi Development Consortium’s Thomas Okoth Nyalulu welcomed the effort and advised farmers to use certified seedlings to avoid losses. More broadly, the initiative reflects ongoing efforts in eastern Uganda to expand cash-crop farming and strengthen household incomes.
