Kozora: Most Pressing Questions Of Pittsburgh Steelers 2026 Training Camp - Steelers Depot

What the report says
Steelers Depot reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to report to training camp, with their first practice scheduled for Wednesday morning and roster decisions expected to develop over the next three weeks before camp ends in mid-August. The outlet framed the summer as a key evaluation period before Aug. 30 cutdowns, identifying quarterback, rookie roster spots, practice structure, defensive line depth, wide receiver roles and contract talks as the main issues to monitor.
One major question, according to Steelers Depot, is whether Will Howard can secure the No. 2 quarterback job. The report said Howard is expected to open camp in that role and could receive extensive preseason work after missing exhibition games the previous year. Steelers Depot also noted that general manager Omar Khan has not cut a drafted rookie out of camp since taking over, but this year’s 10-player class may face tougher numbers on a veteran-heavy roster.
The report also highlighted changes under Mike McCarthy, saying training camp may look different from Mike Tomlin’s approach, potentially with a faster-paced and less physical format based on McCarthy’s past stops. On the roster, Steelers Depot pointed to the final defensive line spots as especially competitive, with Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black and Sebastian Joseph-Day described as likely safe while several others compete for remaining places.
At wide receiver, the outlet said DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. appear settled as the top two options, while Germie Bernard and Roman Wilson could compete for the No. 3 role. Steelers Depot also said contract business remains a storyline, particularly whether cornerback Joey Porter Jr. receives a new deal.
