Kotido ARDC Lokwii Calls for Action on Auditor General’s Report

Watchdog Uganda reports that Kotido Assistant Resident District Commissioner Peter Lokwi Abraham has urged authorities to act on issues raised in the Auditor General’s Report for the 2024/2025 financial year. He spoke during a report dissemination meeting held at Kotido District Hall on Thursday, 23 July 2026, organized by the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition. Lokwi said public officers should face accountability where there is poor performance or misuse of government resources.

According to the publisher, Dr. Ayub Mukisa, who heads the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition, presented audit findings that pointed to several concerns in Kotido District. These included salary payment discrepancies, Parish Revolving Fund money reportedly given to people who were not eligible, issues around the construction of Rengen Seed Secondary School, and lower-than-expected releases of secondary school capitation grants when compared with learner enrolment.

The article also cites the Office of the Auditor General as finding that medical equipment valued at UGX 123 million had been supplied to Kamoru Health Centre during the financial year but was not being used, creating what officials described as wastage of public resources. The meeting was attended by Kotido District Local Government officials, civil society groups including NARWOA, MUCOBADI and StrongMinds, as well as community monitors.

In responses reported by Watchdog Uganda, District Education Officer Benson Katyango pointed to teacher absenteeism as a major education-sector problem. Principal Internal Auditor Ochen David Aleper said district officials often struggle to supervise projects handled by central government, suggesting a need for stronger coordination between national and local authorities.
