Kompany recovery will take 'weeks' as tests continue

What the report says
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany is expected to be out for weeks after collapsing at the club’s training ground on Friday, according to director of sport Max Eberl. BBC Sport reported that Kompany, 40, remains in stable condition in hospital while doctors continue examinations. Eberl said Bayern are not setting a day-by-day return timeline and want to first understand the cause before discussing recovery more broadly.
The club had considered asking for Sunday’s Bundesliga match at Freiburg to be postponed, but decided to play on. Eberl said Bayern believed competing and getting a positive result would be a good response while Kompany recovers. He also said the club wants to protect the former Manchester City and Belgium defender more carefully going forward.
BBC Sport reported that Kompany had been unwell with a virus in recent days and had missed Tuesday’s pre-match news conference before Bayern’s Champions League game against Arsenal, though he was on the touchline for that match on Wednesday. Eberl suggested Kompany may have pushed himself too hard. Assistant coach Aaron Danks said he had visited Kompany in hospital and that football matters were off the agenda, with the coaching staff handling operations in his absence. The situation matters because Kompany has led Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga and is overseeing the club’s push for another title.
