Kompany discharged from hospital following collapse

What the report says
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital and is recovering after collapsing at the club’s training ground, according to a Bayern board member quoted by BBC Sport. The 40-year-old was taken to hospital last Friday after becoming unwell while watching the club’s second team train in Munich.
The club has said the episode was caused by meningeal irritation, described in the report as inflammation of the membrane around the brain and spinal cord. Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting board member, told German broadcaster ARD that Kompany is “doing well” and that his discharge was the “biggest and best news” for the club.
BBC Sport reported that Kompany had been dealing with a virus in the days before the collapse and had missed some training sessions. Bayern had already indicated his return would take “weeks, not days,” and no firm timeline has been set for when he will resume touchline duties. English assistant coach Aaron Danks has been in charge in his absence, including for Sunday’s 3-1 Bundesliga win at Freiburg.
The update comes as Bayern prepare for a busy run of fixtures, including a league match against Borussia Dortmund. The situation is important because Kompany, appointed Bayern manager in May 2024, is a central figure in the club’s season and his short-term availability affects both domestic and European preparations.
