Kitagwenda launches Shs50m water project to address water challenges in Kinyamugara

Authorities in Kitagwenda District have launched a Shs50 million water project in Kinyamugara Parish, Kicheche Sub-county, aimed at expanding access to safe water for more than eight villages. According to Nile Post, the plan centers on a production borehole that is intended to reduce dependence on distant and unprotected water sources that residents have used for years.

The district says many people in the area have had to walk at least two kilometres to fetch water, a challenge local leaders link to exposure to waterborne disease and wider health concerns. District councillor Everlyne Kanyesigye said the project should improve residents’ health and livelihoods by bringing a more reliable water source closer to homes. The water officer, Peter Sseremba, said the design allows for future expansion to serve additional underserved communities.

District chairperson Ephrance Kenyonyozi urged residents to protect the facility and pair improved water access with better hygiene and sanitation. She also said the district would continue pushing for improvements in other services, including healthcare. Assistant Resident District Commissioner Philip Nabaasa called on the contractor to deliver quality work that will remain useful over time.

Nile Post reported that water coverage in Kitagwenda remains uneven, with Kicheche Sub-county among the less served areas. The new borehole is expected to help close that gap and ease the daily burden of collecting water once completed and operational.
