Kisoro Vaccinates 71,133 Children Against Measles and Rubella

What the report says
Kisoro District in southwestern Uganda has completed a measles and rubella vaccination drive that reached 71,133 children aged nine months to five years, according to Nile Post. The district said the tally represented 99.72% of its target population, reflecting a near-complete campaign despite difficult terrain.
District Health Officer Dr. Bosco Muhangi said the exercise was first set for October 1 to 5, 2026, but was extended to October 8 so health workers could reach communities in the district’s hilly and hard-to-access areas. The extension was intended to give teams more time to locate eligible children who could not be reached within the original schedule.
Muhangi also credited health workers, security personnel, Village Health Teams, Community Health Extension Workers and local leaders for helping move vaccines safely and support outreach in remote areas. The campaign focused on preventing measles and rubella among young children, a priority for public health programs because both diseases can spread quickly and cause serious illness.
The reported result highlights the challenge of delivering immunization services in mountainous districts, where geography can affect access to health care. It also shows the role of local coordination in reaching children in communities that are often missed during routine campaigns.
