Kisoro Businessman and Wife Shot Dead at Home

Police in Kisoro Municipality have opened an investigation after businessman Africano Nteziyaremye and his wife, Peace Kyompeire, were shot dead outside their home in Zindiro Cell, Kamonyi Ward, according to Nile Post. The couple was attacked by unidentified gunmen as they arrived home on the night of October 17, 2026, after returning from work.

The publisher reported that the pair had been traveling in their Toyota pickup after running a wholesale business in the area when the assailants opened fire at the gate of their residence. Kigezi regional police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said detectives, supported by a canine unit, visited the scene and collected evidence as part of efforts to identify the attackers.

As of October 18, police had not made any arrests. Tumushime said investigators were following leads to establish who carried out the double killing and where they may be. Police also appealed to anyone with information to report it to the nearest station.

The killings have drawn attention to violent crime concerns in the Kigezi sub-region. More broadly, fatal shootings of business owners and couples can heighten public anxiety over security around homes and businesses, especially in areas where residents are returning from work late at night.
