Kotaku reports that an alleged opening cinematic from Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, Square Enix’s canceled mobile entry in the Disney/Square Enix RPG series, circulated online over the weekend. The game had been planned as a story link to Kingdom Hearts IV before Square Enix canceled it in 2025. According to Kotaku, the clip first appeared on 4chan and then spread through social media posts and shared links.

The footage reportedly shows astronaut-like Keyblade wielders fighting a large Heartless before the scene opens onto what appears to be Quadratum, a Japan-inspired world expected to play a major role in Kingdom Hearts IV. Kotaku notes that Missing-Link had previously been understood to focus on Scala ad Caelum, a central location in the franchise’s mythology. Fans have speculated that the characters in the video may have been connected to Scala ad Caelum and its relationship to Quadratum.

At first, the video’s authenticity was disputed. Some beta participants said the style did not resemble what they had seen of Missing-Link, while others questioned whether the footage could be fan-made or AI-generated. Kotaku also reported that the leaker shared additional images claimed to be from the canceled game, including what appeared to be the character Brain, known from earlier Kingdom Hearts mobile titles.

Kotaku later updated its story to say the full cinematic had been released and confirmed the material was from Missing-Link. Square Enix had not issued an official statement at the time of the report. The leak matters because Kingdom Hearts’ mobile games have often carried important lore, and fans are watching for clues about what may carry over into Kingdom Hearts IV.
