King Oyo tribute adds emotion to Miss Tourism Uganda finale

What the report says
Miss Tourism Uganda 2026 ended with both pageantry and a moment of mourning at the grand finale held at Serena Hotel Kampala, according to Sqoop Uganda. Contestants from the Tooro sub-region joined other participants in paying tribute to the late Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, adding a solemn note to an event otherwise centered on music, fashion and competition.
The competition brought together more than 36 women and eight men from 12 tourism clusters, with organizers presenting the contest as a platform to promote Uganda’s cultural diversity and tourism identity. After the tribute, focus returned to the finalists, and 20-year-old Filfat Mucureezi, also identified in the article as Mucureezi Milfat, was announced as Miss Tourism Uganda 2026. Sqoop Uganda said she stood out to judges during the question-and-answer segment for her confidence and composure.
The men’s category also featured a winner, with Prosper Auther Makayi taking the second edition of Man of Tourism International Uganda. The event was attended by officials and stakeholders from Uganda’s tourism and cultural sectors, including State Minister for Tourism Susan Nakawuki Nsambu, along with representatives from the Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority and the Museums and Monuments department.
The article framed the finale as a reminder that tourism promotion in Uganda is closely tied to cultural institutions, regional identity and public celebration. It also noted that Mucureezi’s title comes with a rent-free residence during her reign, underscoring the role the competition plays in supporting its winners as tourism ambassadors.
