Kiboga Teacher on the Run After Assaulting Student With Hoe Handle

Nile Post reports that police in Uganda’s Wamala Region are searching for a teacher at Zion Secondary School Kirinda in Kiboga District after an alleged assault on a Senior Two student. According to the report, police identified the learner as 17-year-old Arafat Ndiwalana, a resident of Kyato Village in Kasega Parish, Kapeke Sub-county. The incident is said to have occurred at around 8:30am on July 14, 2026.

Police reportedly said the student had left class with his shirt untucked and went to the school gate to ask teacher Ken Sserwadda for permission to leave school and collect pocket money. After being told to tuck in his shirt and return to class, the student allegedly untucked it again. Preliminary police accounts cited by Nile Post say the teacher then took a hoe handle, followed the learner into the classroom and struck him on the back and neck.

The student was reportedly left unconscious, with an injury to his right eye. Other students raised an alarm, after which staff intervened and the learner received first aid before being taken to a nearby clinic. Police said he was later in stable condition, and that statements had been recorded from the student and witnesses after he regained consciousness.

Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lamech Kigozi condemned the alleged attack and urged teachers to use restraint and follow professional disciplinary standards. Nile Post reports that the suspect fled after the incident, and police investigations and efforts to arrest him are continuing. The case adds to wider concerns about learner safety and the limits of corporal punishment in schools.
