Kiboga Residents Turn to Collective Saving to Fight Poverty

What the report says
Residents in Mutuba 11, Muwanga Sub-county in Kiboga District say a collective-saving approach through CBS Pewosa groups is helping them reduce poverty and strengthen household finances. According to Nile Post, members of the Nabwendo Bisobooka savings group say the model has improved their ability to plan, invest and respond to everyday expenses.
The article says the group was formed with support from CBS Pewosa as part of broader efforts to encourage economic empowerment in Buganda. Members reported that the initiative has helped them accumulate and share more than Shs30 million in savings. They said this has made it easier to meet household needs and pursue small investments, while also building financial resilience over time.
The group’s members discussed their progress during a gathering held to celebrate the group’s achievements and recognize local leadership that has promoted savings and collective development. One member, Specioza Massiwa, said saving together has changed how households manage money. CBS Pewosa trainers, including Edith Namazzi, also urged members to combine saving with hard work and responsible investing so the benefits last.
Local leaders and Buganda Kingdom representatives who attended encouraged more residents, especially young people, to join savings groups and adopt disciplined financial habits. They also advised households to prepare for possible food shortages, linking financial planning with wider community wellbeing.
