Khalifa AgaNaga seeks Shs550m, orders KFC to pull down advert

What the report says
Ugandan musician Khalifa AgaNaga has accused fast-food chain KFC of using his song “Nassanga Remix” in a promotional TikTok video without permission and has threatened legal action, according to Sqoop Uganda. Through Elgon Advocates, the singer says KFC should remove the video and pay Shs550 million in damages and legal costs.
The notice of intention to sue says the dispute centers on a video posted to KFC’s official TikTok account that allegedly used the song as background music for commercial content. The lawyers argue that no synchronisation licence, performance licence or written consent was obtained, and say the use may amount to copyright infringement under Uganda’s Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act.
Sqoop Uganda reports that AgaNaga is demanding the immediate deletion of the video from TikTok and any other KFC-controlled social media platforms, along with a promise not to use his music in future campaigns without approval. Of the amount sought, Shs500 million is described as compensation and aggravated damages, while Shs50 million is for legal costs.
If KFC does not comply within seven days of receiving the notice, the lawyers say they are prepared to go to court seeking an injunction, damages and costs. The dispute also highlights the growing commercial value of Ugandan music online, especially for popular tracks that are widely shared across social platforms.
