Kenya: 'Why Raila Odinga International Stadium Is in Same Class With Emirates Stadium'

What the report says
National Assembly Sports Committee chair Dan Wanyama has praised Kenya’s new Talanta Sports Stadium, saying the 60,000-seat project shows the country can deliver a modern venue in less than four years. Speaking in Nairobi, the Webuye West legislator compared the facility’s standard to Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and urged Kenyans to view it as a major achievement by the Kenya Kwanza government.
His remarks came as questions continue over whether Kenya and Uganda are moving quickly enough to meet Confederation of African Football requirements for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Wanyama rejected those concerns, arguing that critics are underestimating progress at Talanta and saying the remaining work would be completed by the end of December, according to the article.
He also said a CAF representative in the country was monitoring developments and had given a positive assessment of Kenya’s preparations. Beyond the tournament, Wanyama said the stadium should be managed as a long-term public asset rather than allowed to fall into disrepair after the event. He called for policies to commercialize and maintain the venue so it can continue serving Kenyan sports for years to come.
The report added that other venues, including Kasarani Stadium, are being renovated for AFCON matches, while Nyayo Stadium, Police Sacco Stadium and Ulinzi Sports Complex are expected to serve as training grounds.
