Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge wins his first marathon in three years in Melbourne

What the report says
Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya won the Melbourne Marathon in Australia on Sunday, giving the two-time Olympic champion his first marathon victory in three years, according to Al Jazeera. The race finished in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds, which was just under the event record. Al Jazeera reported that Kipchoge had last won a marathon in Berlin in 2023.
The report said the 41-year-old was racing as part of his “World Tour” effort, a project he announced in 2025 to complete marathons on all seven continents over two years. Melbourne was described as the third stop in that campaign, after races in South Africa and Brazil. The course used part of the Albert Park Formula One circuit before finishing inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Kipchoge broke away in the final 10 kilometers and slowed near the finish while waving to spectators. He said he enjoyed the course and believed his body was still performing at a high level. Behind him, Australia’s Thomas Do Canto took second and another Australian, Reece Edwards, finished third.
The result adds another milestone to Kipchoge’s career as one of the most successful marathon runners in history. More broadly, the report shows he remains competitive even as he pursues a global series of marathons that combines elite racing with fundraising and public engagement.
