What the report says

President William Ruto used the second day of a 10-day development tour in Kenya’s North Rift to argue that his political rivals have no clear plan for the country and that the 2027 general election will be decided by development records and practical proposals rather than ethnic appeals. The remarks were reported by Capital FM and distributed by AllAfrica, with Ruto speaking in Elgeyo-Marakwet and Baringo counties on Tuesday.

According to the report, Ruto said his government is prioritizing roads, electricity, housing and markets in the Kerio Valley and surrounding counties as part of efforts to improve security, reduce isolation and support economic activity. He cited multi-billion-shilling investments in road construction in Elgeyo-Marakwet and Baringo, including the Kinyach-Kipsaraman road, as well as ongoing works on the Kipsaraman-Kinyach road and other transport projects in the region.

The president also highlighted housing, market and education-related projects in Elgeyo-Marakwet, including affordable housing units, student hostels and the Kapyego Modern Market. He launched and inspected electricity and infrastructure projects in both counties, saying the initiatives are meant to expand access to services and jobs. Officials accompanying him, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, also praised the government’s security and electrification efforts.
