Kenya: Ruto Gets Glimpse of Kemsa's Digital Transformation At Health Summit

What the report says
President William Ruto visited KEMSA’s exhibition stand at the Kenya Health Summit in Nairobi on Tuesday, where the state agency outlined its digital transformation programme. According to Capital FM’s report distributed by AllAfrica, KEMSA showed how it is using digital tools to improve efficiency, accountability and visibility in the health supply chain, including a paperless system and doorstep delivery of essential commodities to health facilities.
The agency said its order fill rate has risen to 90% from 40% three years ago, and that its last-mile delivery model is bringing medicines and medical supplies directly to facilities, including those in hard-to-reach areas. The summit gathered national and county officials, health stakeholders, development partners and private-sector representatives to review progress on Kenya’s health reforms and remaining gaps.
Ruto’s visit came after he opened the two-day summit at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre and highlighted broader government health reforms. He said more Kenyans have enrolled in the Social Health Authority, more facilities are covered, and public spending has supported outpatient care, maternal services, surgeries and cancer treatment. He also pointed to the rollout of medical equipment across counties. The developments matter because they show how Kenya is trying to combine digital systems, logistics and funding reforms to expand access to care and strengthen universal health coverage.
